Outbuilding conversion: Design, consultancy and installation
X-SPACE. were commissioned to design and install a multi-room recording studio with control room and three live rooms in a substantial farm outbuilding.
The outbuilding was originally an old milking shed and was converted into a multi-room recording studio with acoustic treatment and bespoke room design to minimise outside noise interference and maximise recording fidelity. All rooms were interconnected to a main hub with a minimum of sixteen tie lines in each area and additional video/network and MIDI connectivity.
The control room was fitted with a vintage CADAC console which was originally installed at the RSC theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon from 1984 to 2006 and came with an incredible history and superb audio quality! The main monitoring system was made by PMC loudspeakers – a beautiful sounding pair of IB2s monitors. We also recommended and supplied all of the recording equipment and built bespoke PCs to run the recording software. The audio processing racks included Crane Song compressors, Raindirk Audio pre-amplifiers and EQs, high end ADA convertors and Neumann microphones.
